[Girard, Ohio] — On June 24, 2024, Women In Trucking (WIT) partnered with AIM Transportation Solutions to host an on‑site educational event that drew 50 young attendees, including local Girl Scout troops and children of AIM employees. The program aimed to showcase the breadth of trucking careers and ignite future interest in the industry.

The event centered on WIT’s WITney Educational Trailer, a mobile classroom that offered hands‑on tours of trucking equipment and a driving simulator where kids tested basic truck operation skills. WIT’s director of driver engagement, Jenny Fall, praised the turnout and the enthusiasm of the participants. She noted, "Since planning began, the coordinators were full of energy and excitement about sharing careers in trucking with the young people in their community. By opening the program to not only the Girl Scouts but also the children of employees of AIM Transportation, so many others got to experience the activities and try out the driving simulator, testing their skills on the road. I always enjoy seeing the reaction from the kids as they start thinking that trucking might be a pretty cool thing to be a part of."

AIM Transportation, a full‑service truck leasing company operating in 16 states, provided the venue and logistical support. Business development manager Trisha Mosser explained, "Aim is constantly seeking new ways to educate the next generation about the exciting opportunities within the trucking industry and the trades overall. My primary goal was to present information to my Girl Scout Troop to help them see trucking as a real, rewarding career path. What started as a small initiative quickly grew with the involvement of Aim employees and their children. Now, we have an entire group of young people inspired by how fun and empowering it can be to get behind the wheel of a truck. Mission accomplished!"

What This Means for Drivers

Events like this expand the talent pipeline for truck driver jobs, giving potential CDL‑A holders early exposure to industry expectations and safety standards. Owner‑operators and fleet managers benefit from a future workforce that is already familiar with the rigging, maintenance, and regulatory aspects of trucking, including FMCSA regulations. OTR truck drivers will see a more diverse and better‑prepared cohort stepping into the field, which can reduce training costs and improve retention for trucking companies hiring now.

Industry Reaction

The partnership highlights a growing trend among carriers and industry groups to invest in youth education. By collaborating with organizations such as the Girl Scouts of America, WIT reinforces its long‑standing mission to provide hands‑on learning experiences that culminate in a WIT patch. Since the first event in October 2014, more than 1,500 girls across the U.S. and Canada have earned their WIT patches, gaining firsthand insight into the possibilities within the trucking field. This outreach demonstrates that trucking companies hiring today are willing to nurture talent from the ground up, ensuring a steady stream of qualified drivers for the future.
