Westlake, Texas — TravelCenters of America announced a partnership with Electrify America that will bring 1,000 electric‑vehicle chargers to 200 TA/Petro highway stops beginning in 2023 and extending over the next five years.

The move comes as fleets across the United States accelerate adoption of zero‑emission trucks. Long‑haul operators and regional haulers alike have been pressing for reliable high‑speed charging on the interstate network, and TA’s 200‑site rollout promises to fill a critical gap in the corridor between major terminals. The expanded network is expected to boost truck driver jobs at service plazas as more staff are needed to manage the new equipment.

Electrify America will design, permit, install and maintain each station, handling warranty claims and providing 24/7 technical support. The chargers will support up to 350 kW output—fast enough to add roughly 200 miles of range in ten minutes for most Class 8 electric trucks. Drivers will tap the existing Electrify America app to locate a station, start a session and settle the bill, and the hardware will accept virtually every EV make on the road today.

What This Means for Drivers

CDL‑A drivers and owner‑operators can pull into a TA/Petro stop and expect a high‑power plug that restores a depleted battery in a single lunch break, cutting idle time that previously required overnight garage stays. Fleet managers will gain access to charging‑session data through the Electrify America platform, allowing them to route OTR truck drivers around available stations and predict energy costs more accurately. The integration also means that independent owner‑operators can bill their loads with the same efficiency as diesel‑powered rigs, keeping cash flow steady while complying with emerging FMCSA emissions guidelines.
