Chicago, Illinois — The American Trucking Associations (ATA) Women in Motion Council and Trucker Path have officially named the top three women-friendly truck stops in the United States, releasing the data on April 21. This designation highlights specific locations that have successfully implemented every one of the seven safety criteria developed from direct feedback by female drivers. The list serves as a practical resource for the industry, pointing to facilities that exceed standard expectations for lighting, security, and facility management. By identifying these three sites, the organizations provide a clear benchmark for what a safe and usable truck stop environment looks like in 2026.

Truck stop conditions remain a critical factor in driver safety and operational efficiency across the network. For many professionals, the decision to pull off the highway is influenced by the immediate environment of the rest area. Poor lighting, lack of maintenance, or insufficient security can turn a necessary break into a hazardous situation. The Women in Motion designation addresses these concerns by setting a specific standard that goes beyond basic amenities. It reflects a broader industry shift toward recognizing that safety features are not just a marketing point but a fundamental requirement for a functional logistics network. This initiative is particularly relevant for those who spend long hours on the road, where the quality of the stop can directly impact rest and alertness.

The ranking process required each facility to meet all seven specific standards: lighted parking lots, illuminated bathroom access, lit lounge areas, lit showers, lit laundry facilities, 24-hour maintenance availability, and on-site security. In addition to meeting these physical requirements, the locations had to maintain strong user ratings within the Trucker Path application. The three winners are Compass Travel Center in DeMotte, Indiana; Garden Inn Truck Plaza in Mound City, Missouri; and Talent Truck Stop in Talent, Oregon. Compass Travel Center also secured the 25th position on Trucker Path’s broader Top 100 Truck Stops list, indicating that its safety features contribute to its overall high standing in the industry.

What This Means for Drivers

\n

For any CDL-A driver or owner-operator, knowing which stops meet these rigorous safety standards can reduce anxiety during long-haul routes. Trucker Path introduced specific search functionality in 2024, allowing users to filter locations based on these seven safety features. This tool helps drivers plan their routes with confidence, ensuring they can find a secure place to rest without worrying about dark parking areas or unmonitored facilities. As the number of compliant locations grows, the infrastructure for safer breaks becomes more accessible for all professionals on the road. Drivers can now prioritize stops that are verified for their security and maintenance, which is a significant advantage when planning overnight layovers.

Industry Reaction

The widespread adoption of these safety standards signals a growing commitment by trucking companies and facility operators to improve the driver experience. Since the introduction of the Women in Motion search filters, more than 12,000 truck stops have added information regarding at least one safety feature. Nearly 250 locations have now achieved full compliance with all seven standards, showing a tangible improvement in industry practices. The Women in Motion section of the Trucker Path app has been accessed over 64 million times, demonstrating that this information is highly valued by the community. This level of engagement suggests that drivers are actively seeking out and rewarding facilities that prioritize their safety and comfort.
