Washington, D.C. — A bipartisan Senate bill introduced Thursday seeks to cut redundant background‑check fees and streamline the process for obtaining hazardous‑materials (hazmat) endorsements.

The move matters to anyone hauling regulated cargo because the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and the hazmat endorsement both require a TSA security screening. Until now, drivers have been forced to pay for separate checks even though the information is identical, inflating costs for owner‑operators and fleet operators alike.
