The major carrier, ranked number nine on the CCJ Top 250, integrated new compliance steps and verification protocols into its existing platform to handle the unique demands of bulk transport. The system provides shippers with round-the-clock visibility and automated load booking for commodities that previously required extensive phone calls and manual paperwork.

While dry van and refrigerated freight have utilized digital freight matching and instant quoting tools for years, the bulk hauling sector remained largely stuck in manual workflows due to safety and operational hurdles. Handling bulk loads involves intricate variables such as selecting the correct tank type, preparing the vessel for specific products, determining whether an air unload or pump unload is necessary, and reviewing mandatory Safety Data Sheets. Jason Howe, Schneider’s senior vice president of bulk, noted that the company has maintained bulk capacity for more than 50 years, giving it a strong foundation to build this digital channel. To adapt the FreightPower architecture—which originally launched in 2020 and draws on a fleet of over 11,000 trucks and 37,000 trailers—the carrier added targeted questions and required data fields for shippers. Once a registered customer inputs their product type, Schneider uploads the Safety Data Sheet and conducts an internal review. The system then generates an email confirmation, allowing the shipper to track the movement in real time and establish custom notification preferences.
