New Ulm, Minnesota — J&R Schugel Trucking, Inc. has officially launched a new breast cancer awareness semi-truck, a rolling tribute designed to cover the lower 48 states and spark conversations about early detection. The carrier, which maintains a fleet of 700 power units, unveiled the custom-wrapped tractor as part of an ongoing community outreach effort that emphasizes the importance of regular mammogram screenings for women starting at age 40.

This initiative marks a shift in how the company handles awareness campaigns by partnering directly with B The Light, a non-profit founded by breast cancer survivor Amber Melby. By providing connection and resources to families affected by the disease, the collaboration aims to expand the reach of the truck beyond just a visual display. The company has a history of using its equipment for advocacy, having previously wrapped units for mental health and autism awareness since 2017.

Courtney Antonsen, Director of Human Resources for J&R Schugel, noted that the carrier feels a deep responsibility to use its national footprint to highlight a medical issue that affects one in eight women. The company, established in 1974, operates out of headquarters in New Ulm and maintains additional facilities in Tomah, Wisconsin; Pataskala, Ohio; and Forest Park, Georgia. This specific unit will soon be assigned to one of their professional drivers for standard OTR operations.

What This Means for Drivers

For the average CDL-A driver, seeing these high-profile awareness rigs on the road serves as a reminder of the industry’s capacity to influence public health discussions. Many trucking companies hiring today are placing a higher premium on corporate social responsibility as a way to attract and retain talent who want to drive for organizations with a clear mission. Current owner-operator trends suggest that drivers are increasingly looking for carriers that support their personal values, whether that involves safety advocacy or community health awareness.

Industry Reaction

The trucking industry has long served as a billboard for national causes, utilizing the vast reach of the interstate highway system to bring awareness to areas that might otherwise miss localized campaigns. By dedicating equipment to the fight against breast cancer, carriers like J&R Schugel demonstrate that the professional driving lifestyle can be leveraged for more than just freight movement. This movement toward awareness-based branding helps humanize the fleet and connects drivers to the communities they serve from coast to coast.
