Bremerton, Washington — A fully loaded garbage truck tipped on Highway 3 at 1:13 p.m. on Monday, blocking traffic and forcing both southbound lanes to close until after 5 p.m.
\nThe incident unfolded on a stretch of Highway 3 that carries heavy truck traffic into the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. A tire failure on the garbage truck caused the vehicle to overturn, leaving the driver with minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved, but the crash left commuters, many heading home from the shipyard, stranded for hours.
\nWashington State Patrol spokeswoman reported that tow trucks arrived shortly after the crash, prompting the decision to shut down both lanes. Trooper Katherine Weatherwax was on site, coordinating lane closures and announcing that two Class A trucks were en route. Once the trucks arrived, both southbound lanes were closed to clear the wreckage and ensure safety.
